Gatlinburg Vacation Cabin One Week Itinerary
Honeymoon in Gatlinburg! Just the sound of it makes you feel like strolling through the woods together getting ready for a great week to relax after the wedding.
We have a group of very private honeymoon cabins outside Gatlinburg, just close enough to enjoy all the activities of town but far enough away to feel the majesty of the mountains and the seclusion every honeymoon couple longs for.
Our guests over the years have selected the following 7 day itinerary as the best for honeymooning in Gatlinburg.
Day 1: Probably you will arrive late, so enjoy the fireplace in winter or in summer or winter relax on the swing, slip into the hot tub and gaze at the stars, the only lights on the mountain outside the cabins. Begin a journal for your week of fun.
Day 2: Sleep in...be sure to have a few snacks packed so you don't starve to death...breakfast out, say at the Pancake Pantry, a Gatlinburg favorite. Closes at 2, so don't sleep in too late! Visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Headquarters in Gatlinburg and get your maps and plan your hikes for the week. Stroll up to the Chimneys, a favorite short hike off 441, just 1.2 miles each way, with great views and tumbling water along the trail. Do some grocery shopping for your cabin kitchen, head home for a cookout on the charcoal grill, and turn in early.
Day 3: Watch the weather...if clear, drive up to Clingman's Dome to see the Eastern Continental Divide's highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If the weather is clear, head on over to Cherokee to see the Cherokee Indian Museum. Be sure to take a lunch and eat by a river on the way to Cherokee. Evening, try a steak house like the Peddler Steak House in Gatlinburg, hand cut steaks served by the river. You will love the salad bar!
Day 4: Go the the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. It is about an hour and a half drive and well worth it. The best restaurant there, in our opinion, is the Bistro across from the winery. Allow at least 4 hours at Biltmore or longer and try a "behind the scenes" tour...they get rave reviews from our guests. Ask us for tickets to save time in line. Interchange day 3 and 4 depending on weather as no need for clear skies going to Biltmore, but need them for cresting the Smokies.
Day 5: Go on foot today...have a wonderful breakfast in your cabin or come down to Creekwalk Inn and Cabins at Whisperwood Farm in Cosby for breakfast. Ask them to pack you a trail lunch and recommend a trail. Hen Wallow Falls is a favorite, just 2.2 miles in and lovely, not too difficult, starting at Cosby Campground, a national park entrance. In summer, you must explore Big Creek and head to the swimming holes on the river there. Try a fun dinner show, Dixie Stampede, to end another fantastic day.
Day 6: After all this hiking, you might be ready for a massage at your cabin. Call Utopian Day Spa to come on out to your cabin on our private mountain, Wildflower Wilderness, for extreme privacy and relaxation. Another option is to take a drive over to Hot Springs Spa, just about an hour away from your cabin, in Hot Springs, NC. The tubs are supplied with spa water heated by the spring. Soak an hour, then have a couple's massage after you are already relaxed. The Appalachian Trail cuts right through Hot Springs, so this is a fun little (very little!) town with a few pubs and a great hiking store. Do a little exploring on the way home and take a trail ride at Smoky Mountain Stables or Arnold Estates for some classic fun. Rent a good movie and get some popcorn for your cabin tonight. Grill shish-ka-bobs with shrimp and peppers and tomatoes, bake a few potatoes, whip up some brownies in the oven and make hot chocolate. Yum!
Day 7: Of course, there is always Dollywood! And the Aqaurium! And all the wineries in the area to taste! And 800 miles of hiking trails! And Douglas Lake, one of the best fishing lakes in the United States, with boat rentals we can arrange for you! Good grief, decide to add a few more nights...after all, we used to go on vacations for a "fortnight", which was two weeks. How did we ever think we could manage with just one week!
Any more honeymoon ideas needed? Call Janice, 865-696-2222. I've been living in the Smokies since 1982, hiked most of the trails, played here for years and am always looking for a new adventure myself. Our honeymoon cabins are designed just for couples, with a hot tub, heart-shaped jacuzzi, king bed, chef's kitchen with stone countertops and full sized appliances, a charcoal grill...minimal tv presence as we think the face of your beloved should be larger than the folks on the screen you will never meet anyway. So try a little of our "wild side" luxury woodscaping. We have the services of Chef Cuisine Amour who will deliver amazing dinners to your cabin each night if you want complete rest and pampering. Check out her site at www.privatedinnerchef.com and of course ours.
7 night special for Gatlinburg honeymooners! $1500 plus tax includes all 7 nights, Biltmore tickets for two, dinner for two at your cabin, massage for two at Hot Springs or your cabin, breakfast for two at Creekwalk Inn with picnic lunch, and breakfast for two at the Pancake Pantry, hiking map.
